Located in a shopping mall, StagE was inspired by the design of theatre houses. The aim was to create an exclusive experience, allowing the audience to indulge in the movie as not just entertainment, but also an artistic activity. To achieve this, ARTTA Concept Studio incorporated theatrical design elements within the cinema houses, creating a harmonised and solemn atmosphere.
What sets StagE apart is its unique blend of clean, simple lines, and clear-cut patterns with natural marble and wooden materials. The use of metal and crafted glass in the details elevates the design, infusing a unique Art Deco style into the cinema. A deformed chandelier serves as the main feature of the box office, casting reflections on the floor and ceiling to diffuse an artistic atmosphere throughout the interior.
The design faced challenges due to its location in a modern shopping mall and a low ceiling. However, the designers successfully overcame these obstacles, creating depth and a theatre ambiance within the space. The VIP room, named BackstagE, features craft glass and crude wood interior as an insulation layer, creating a looming effect that piques customer curiosity.
StagE boasts four houses with a total of 489 seats, covering a gross floor area of 1400 SQM. The design was realized in Tuen Mun Town Plaza, Hong Kong. The project involved extensive research on the design of opera houses and music theatres to incorporate theatrical design into the cinema interior.
StagE has been recognized for its innovative design, winning the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation. StagE is indeed a testament to ARTTA Concept Studio's commitment to pushing the boundaries of cinema design.
